What does a "Celebrant" do?

In England and Wales, a Wedding Celebrant can save you money, and provide the “Wedding Day” you really want. We design together your special day. As this is without the “Legal Bit”. it can be referred to as a “Wedding Celebration”.

What if you could “do the legal bit”, for around £50, well, you can. 

You can get married in the Registrar’s Office, in your own time and at your own convenience, in the morning, the day before, or month or months before, or even afterwards. This can then remove all your restrictions for your Wedding Celebration, which you then could design yourself, and hold it where you like. The “Legal Bit”, registering a marriage, need only cost around £50 on this basis. If you don’t believe me, ask your local registry office.

Once you are legally married, a trained Celebrant, such as myself, can design and conduct a complete “Marriage Ceremony”, tailor made to your satisfaction, with music you choose, theme you choose, and you could hold it where and when you like, in a marquee in the open air, at home, at the club, on the beach, in the sea, in the air, in the evening, you name it (and get permission from the owner) and have the celebration of your life. Many people also use Celebrants when renewing their vows after many happy years being married. 

If you ask the registrar to marry you outside of their “registered premises”, their office, they have to use other “registered premises” hotels etc. which pay a licence to be so registered. Guess how that cost is passed on. The registrar and assistant have various rules they have to obey, no religion, no drinks in the licensed ceremony room, which has to have a roof etc. and they charge for their visits, up to £600 (they come in two’s) for a Bank Holiday weekend, if you can manage to co-ordinate the venue and their diary.

And at the end of the day, if you are already legally married, because you are not restricted to licensed premises, and “loaded costs” with all the relevant conditions, it should also be cheaper to have a Celebrant, which equals
